2020 Impreza Sedan vs BRZ Comparison Research at Shingle Springs Subaru

The Impreza Sedan and the BRZ do have a few similarities. They're both cars with the longevity and quality you've come to expect from Subaru. However, they're also incredibly different. While the Impreza is a capable and reliable family sedan, the BRZ is an affordable sports coupe. Choosing between them involves reflecting on what kind of driving you're planning on primarily doing.

We have both of these cars in our huge inventory at Shingle Springs Subaru. We're glad to bring you more information comparing Subaru models; below, you'll see just how these two vehicles compare.

Design & Size Comparison

The 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan is an attractive car, with clean lines and an assertive yet understated front fascia. Its standard 16-inch wheels are sturdy and sensible, and you can add a trunk spoiler or larger wheels for added flair. The BRZ, on the other hand, shows its sportiness in every line and curve. With 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a standard trunk spoiler, it's designed to turn heads. The BRZ also comes standard with features that are available upgrades only on the Subaru Impreza, including LED headlights and LED fog lights.

As a sedan, the Subaru Impreza has more room for you and your passengers. It can comfortably seat five people in its 99.8 cubic feet of passenger volume, and it also features a 12.3-cubic-foot trunk. By comparison, the BRZ can only fit four people in its 76.5 cubic feet of passenger volume, and its trunk is 6.9 cubic feet.

Comfort and Technology Comparison

While both of these vehicles offer impressive comfort features, there are several that are standard in the BRZ and available upgrades only in the Impreza Sedan. Heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and automatic climate control are among these features. However, there are some areas where the optional features in the Impreza outshine those in the BRZ. The 2020 Subaru Impreza has an available 8-inch touchscreen and 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity. The BRZ lacks wi-fi, and offers only a 7-inch touchscreen.

Safety Comparison

Both of these cars are impressively safe, thanks to the quality of Subaru construction. However, their focus is different. The Subaru Impreza comes standard with symmetrical all-wheel drive, which gives it extra traction that comes in handy on slicker surfaces. The BRZ is designed to be sportier, so it comes with rear-wheel drive. Furthermore, you can get available EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology on the 2020 Subaru Impreza, as well as other driver assist features like reverse automatic braking and blind-spot detection. These features are unavailable on the 2020 Subaru BRZ, which focuses much more on precise driver control for safety.

Compare Performance

The 2020 Impreza Sedan comes with a SUBARU BOXER® engine that generates 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a fully synchronized 5-speed manual transmission, but you can upgrade to Lineartronic® CVT automatic transmission with available 7-speed manual mode. This engine combines its spirited drive with up to 36 miles per gallon. It's a perfect car for commuting to work, taking the kids to school, or driving down the highway to head out on a trip.

The Subaru BRZ, on the other hand, has a BOXER® engine that generates up to 205 horsepower and up to 156 pound-feet of torque when paired with the standard fully synchronized 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic transmission is also available; this includes manual mode and paddle shifters. Of course, it's more than just the engine that makes the BRZ sporty. It comes standard with a TORSEN® limited-slip rear differential, sport-tuned suspension, and an ultra-quick 13.1:1 steering ratio. An available Brembo® performance braking system provides impressive stopping power, and the optional STI-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension makes the handling even more precise and engaging.
