2020 Impreza vs Legacy Exterior

Size Comparison

The Subaru Impreza Sedan is a small car with exceptional space. With 99.8 cubic feet of passenger volume, it far exceeds small cars from other manufacturers and gives your passengers generous room. However, the Subaru Legacy offers even more room: 105.5 cubic feet of passenger volume. The Legacy also has a larger trunk: 15.1 cubic feet, compared to the 12.3-cubic-foot trunk in the 2020 Legacy.

Of course, this does also mean that the Legacy has a larger footprint. At 190.6 inches long and 72.4 inches wide, it's not a bulky vehicle. However, the Subaru Impreza is 182.7 inches long and 70 inches wide, making it even more capable of handling tight alleyways and narrow parking spaces.

Interior Features

The Subaru Legacy has been completely redesigned for 2020, so it's filled with the latest and best that Subaru has to offer. While both the Impreza Sedan and the Legacy offer features like available heated front seats, only the Legacy has an available heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. Both also offer available leather upholstery, but the Legacy takes things one step further by also offering premium Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery.

When it comes to technology and audio systems, the Subaru Impreza certainly has some impressive options. The standard 6.5-inch touchscreen and 4-speaker audio system can be upgraded to an 8-inch touchscreen and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon speaker system. While the Legacy also comes standard with a 4-speaker system, it offers a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system as an upgrade. Furthermore, the entry-level 2020 Legacy comes with two 7-inch touchscreens. Upgrade to higher trim levels and you'll get an 11.6-inch touchscreen!

Safety Comparison

Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology has been shown to reduce rear-end collisions with injuries by up to 85%. This suite of driver assist features includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, pre-collision braking, and lane departure/sway warning functions. While you can get it on both of these cars, there is a difference. EyeSight® is standard on the Subaru Legacy, but an available upgrade if you choose the Subaru Impreza. The Legacy also offers DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation, which will alert you if your driving indicates that you're drowsy or distracted. Both cars are remarkably safe, but the Subaru Legacy gives you more at the entry level.

Compare Performance Specs

The Subaru Impreza Sedan and the Subaru Legacy are both powered by BOXER® engines that provide excellent balance thanks to their flat design and low placement. The standard engine in the Legacy is more powerful than that in the Impreza Sedan; however, since the Impreza is lighter, they provide a similar feel and similar gas mileage. But while the Impreza just comes with one engine choice, the Legacy offers an upgrade. The available turbocharged BOXER® engine generates 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque for a powerful, responsive drive!
