2020 Subaru Ascent vs 2020 Chevy Traverse: Comfort

It's true that the Chevrolet Traverse does have more interior volume than the 2020 Subaru Ascent. However, the Ascent still has an impressive amount of interior space: 153.5 cubic feet of passenger volume and a maximum cargo space of up to 86.5 cubic feet. Furthermore, you'll find that Subaru keeps your comfort in mind in a way that Chevy doesn't. For example, both SUVs offer heated front seats, heated second-row seats, and ventilated front seats. But heated front seats are standard on all but the entry-level Subaru Ascent; to get them in the Chevy Traverse, you'll have to upgrade several trim levels. Similarly, you'll pay more to get a Traverse with ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats than a similarly-equipped Subaru Ascent. The same thing is true when you look at features like power-adjustable driver's seats, leather upholstery, and other comfort features.

2020 Subaru Ascent vs 2020 Chevy Traverse: Performance

Though the Chevy Traverse has a more powerful engine, the engine in the 2020 Subaru Ascent has a strong advantage due to its BOXER® layout. Unlike the V6 in the Chevrolet Traverse, the SUBARU BOXER® engine in the Subaru Ascent is horizontally opposed, with a flat design that allows it to be placed low in the engine compartment. In addition to improving the SUV's center of gravity, this engine also becomes a valuable part of the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. While every 2020 Subaru Ascent comes standard with this AWD system, the Chevy Traverse is a front-wheel drive vehicle. Sure, all-wheel drive is an available upgrade, but not on the base trim level.

2020 Subaru Ascent vs 2020 Chevy Traverse: Safety Ratings

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is one of the most trusted voices in automotive safety, and it releases its list of Top Safety Picks each year. The 2020 Subaru Ascent received the 2020 Top Safety Pick award from IIHS, marking it as one of the safest vehicles on the road. The 2020 Chevy Traverse failed to make the Top Safety Pick list. Furthermore, the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse earned only four stars in the Frontal Crash category of safety testing performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while the 2020 Subaru Ascent received a perfect five stars in that category.

2020 Subaru Ascent with adaptive cruise control in use

2020 Subaru Ascent vs 2020 Chevy Traverse: Driver Assistance Technology

Subaru vehicles are known for their safety, and the 2020 Ascent is no exception. Every new Ascent comes with EyeSight® driver assistance technology. Adaptive Cruise Control helps you keep a safe distance from other vehicles, while the Lane Departure/Sway Warning and Lane Keep Assist features make it easy to stay where you need to be. There's also Pre-collision Braking, which can help mitigate accidents or avoid them altogether. You'll find all these features in the Chevy Traverse, too--or, to be more precise, in some Chevy Traverse models. These features aren't available at all in the base trim level, or even the one above that. In addition, the Subaru Ascent offers an available safety feature you won't find on any Chevy Traverse: LED Steering Responsive Headlights that turn along with your vehicle to improve visibility.

2020 Subaru Ascent vs 2020 Chevy Traverse: Value

While the Subaru Ascent is more expensive than the base Chevy Traverse, that base trim truly is basic. It lacks a number of features that come standard in the Ascent, from all-wheel drive to adaptive cruise control. Furthermore, available upgrades tend to be less expensive in the Subaru Ascent than they are in the Chevy Traverse. To get a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse with all the features of the entry-level 2020 Subaru Ascent, you'd end up paying much more.
